Appointments

1st appointment

Around 8 weeks of pregnancy, we would like to see you for a first meeting.

This meeting takes about an hour. During this appointment, we will assess your health and (possibly) that of your partner and families. We provide a lot of information about health, lifestyle and pregnancy. If you wish, we will discuss the possibilities of prenatal testing for congenital abnormalities. We will also ask you to do a bloodtest read more

The laboratory tests your blood for:

  • What is your blood group A, B, AB or O?
  • Are you RhD negative or C negative?
  • Does your blood contain antibodies against blood groups you do not have?
  • Are you infected with any of the infectious diseases syphilis (lues), hepatitis B or HIV?
  • Do you have healthy iron (haemoglobin) and sugar (glucose) levels?

At the Bakermat, you can participate in Centering Pregnancy. We will discuss this form of care with you during the first appointment, after which you can indicate whether you are interested.

During each appointment, you will be asked how you feel and how you experience your pregnancy. You can then also express all your questions, expectations, wishes and perhaps even fears. It is useful to prepare for each check-up, for example, write down all your questions in advance.

At the end of this appointment, a term echo will be scheduled; this takes place between 10 and 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Follow-up appointments

The following will be checked at each follow-up appointment:

  • Blood pressure read more
At each check-up, blood pressure is measured. Blood pressure consists of an upper pressure and a lower pressure (e.g. 120/60). Low blood pressure can do no harm, but sometimes causes symptoms such as dizziness and (a tendency to) faint. Towards the end of the pregnancy it is normal for the blood pressure to be somewhat higher. We prefer not to see blood pressure that is too high. If your blood pressure is too high, we will monitor it closely and see what care you need.
  • From 12 weeks, we listen to the baby’s heart with a doptone
  • The growth of the uterus and thus the growth of the baby
  • From 28 weeks of pregnancy, we feel the baby’s position
  • In the final weeks, the baby’s descent into the pelvis

We offer obstetric care in the form of group consultations, also known as Centering Pregnancy. We also offer obstetric care in the form of the ’traditional’ individual consultations. Usually, these consultations will last about 15 minutes. For discussing the birth or other issues that take more time, extra time will be scheduled with you. We are happy to tailor our care to your wishes and needs.

In the first months of pregnancy, (individual) appointments will normally be every 4 weeks. The further you get into your pregnancy, the more frequent your check-ups will become. Eventually, around the due date, this will be every week.

During each appointment, we will ask how you are feeling and how you are experiencing the pregnancy. You can also ask all your questions. It is sometimes useful to write down these questions in advance as a reminder.

Around 33 weeks of pregnancy, the birth is discussed in detail. We schedule a 30-minute appointment for this purpose. Your wishes, expectations and questions will then be discussed. We will also give you information and tell you when to call us when the delivery is due.

If it turns out that you need specialist care, we consult your GP or gynaecologist in an approachable way (if you give us permission)
